Ethan was appointed non-executive Chairman of Fairheads in May 2015, following the B-BBEE transaction whereby Vunani Limited, the black-owned diversified financial services group listed on the JSE, acquired a majority shareholding. Ethan is CEO of Vunani Limited which he co-founded in 1998. Prior to that Ethan gained extensive corporate finance and asset management experience at Standard Chartered Merchant Bank, Southern Asset Managers, and Infinity Asset Management. Ethan holds an MSc in Statistics and an Executive MBA from the University of Uppsala in Sweden.

David Hurford

David Hurford

Chief Executive Officer

David joined Fairheads in 2011. He has 20 years of experience as a senior manager in the banking and finance sectors in South Africa, the United Kingdom and Australia. Prior to joining Fairheads, David held overall leadership of the Western Australian operations of United Community Credit Union, a large mutual bank, where he had worked since 1998. Prior to that he was with Personal Trust (SA), PwC (UK) and Nedcor Bank (A). David has a Bachelor of Business Degree, majoring in Finance and Management from Edith Cowen University, Perth. In 2015, he was appointed to the board of directors with responsibility for the Marketing and Consulting portfolio. David was appointed to the Chief Executive Officer position in 2021.

Aldrin Links

HR Director

Aldrin has a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology (Stellenbosch). He is registered with the HPCSA and has plied his trade in a variety of sectors. Aldrin joined Fairheads in 2005 as Human Resources Manager, tasked with aligning Fairheads’ human resources to meet the company’s operational and strategic objectives. He was appointed HR Director in 2011 and with the co-operation of a passionate and competent team he is now responsible for all facets of HR within the company. Aldrin derives great satisfaction in optimising employee potential to deliver operational excellence.

Olefile Moea

Communications, Marketing & Consulting Director

Olefile holds a Masters’ Degree in Development Finance. He has over 14 years of experience in the financial services sector. Olefile joined Fairheads in 2007 as an Operations Manager and has held various senior management roles. Olefile serves as Chairperson and Trustee on the board of trustees of the Fairheads Umbrella Beneficiary Fund and is a Key Account Manager for one of our mining clients. He is also the Project Sponsor for Fairheads’ guardian roadshows. He was appointed to the board of directors in 2015.

Zukiswa Peter

Zukiswa Mpalweni

Financial Director

Zukiswa holds a B.Com Honours (Financial Analysis and Portfolio Management). She joined Fairheads in 2011. Prior to that she worked at Coronation Asset Management for 10 years as Financial Manager where she was responsible for management reports incorporating history, group valuations, forecast and budgets. She was the Principal Officer of the Momentum Umbrella Beneficiary Fund, Fairheads Umbrella Beneficiary Fund and the Fairheads Unclaimed Benefit Preservation Provident and Pension Funds. In 2021, Zukiswa was appointed Financial Director of Fairheads Benefit Services.

Mark Anderson

Having initiated a number of early B-BBEE deals, Mark formed a corporate finance boutique and then advised on the formation of African Harvest Limited in 1997. Mark is responsible for Vunani Capital Proprietary Limited’s private equity segment.

Noluthando Bobani

Non-Executive Director

A Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)), Noluthando currently serves as Business Partner: Finance at Old Mutual Limited, where she supports strategic decision-making within the Corporate business. Prior to this role, Noluthando worked as an investment analyst, developing expertise in financial analysis, investment evaluation, and capital allocation.

Beyond her corporate responsibilities, she contributes to the broader financial reporting ecosystem as a member of the IFRS SME Implementation Group, which supports the implementation of IFRS for SMEs globally. Nolthando also serves as Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee at University of Zululand, providing oversight on governance, financial integrity, and risk management.

As a seasoned investment professional, Noleqhwa bring over 10 years of experience in the retirement fund industry. Her experience spans across investment operations, investment consultancy, and portfolio management for retirement funds and insurance.

She has a BCom (Business Finance and Economics) from Wits University, Bcom Hons (Financial Planning) from University of Johannesburg and is CFA and CAIA charterholder.

Sanelisiwe Nkuta

Non-Executive Director

Sanelisiwe Nkuta, known as Sani, is a retail insurance business executive and a qualified Actuary. She holds an undergraduate degree and post graduate diploma in Actuarial Science from the University of Cape Town. She completed her MBA at INSEAD in France in 2022.

She started her career in financial services over 11 years ago in traditional actuarial valuations. Following her actuarial qualification, she broadened her horizons in finance and reporting, before joining the office of the CEO as a Chief of Staff in 2018. Her career took her to working as a Business Transformation Executive which widened her business acumen and brought her closer to sales. She currently runs a retail insurance business called Foundation Market in Old Mutual South Africa which provides insurance financial services to the low-income segment through multiple sales channels. This aligns to her purpose of bringing incremental financial freedom to the most vulnerable. Sani also serves on the boards of Old Mutual Life Assurance Company Ghana, and Old Mutual Funeral Services.

Thiru Govender

Thiru Govender

Non-Executive Alternate Director

Thiru completed her Bachelor of Economic Science degree at the University of the Witwatersrand and is a qualified actuary. She has 24 years’ experience within the financial services industry; which were served within actuarial and investment consulting roles at Towers Watson and NMG Benefits; and within a business and product development role at Allan Gray.

Thiru has been extensively involved in retirement fund valuation and governance and the provision of investment advice to pension funds. Thiru is a member of the OMCC EXCO (since November 2017) and as a Principal Consultant, co-leads the OMCC Employee Benefits practice.
